Albon’s Apology Dinner Can’t Save Him From Russell’s Rage
🍝 Lobster, Laughter, and a Little Regret
Alex Albon may have picked up the dinner tab, but that didn’t stop George Russell from calling him out for “grandma driving” during the Monaco Grand Prix.
After Williams and Racing Bulls pulled off a clever two-stop strategy, they slowed the pace to open up a pit window—putting Albon right in front of Russell for most of the race. Russell, stuck behind, finally snapped and made a bold move by cutting the Nouvelle chicane. It helped him finish higher, but it also earned him a drive-through penalty.
Alex Albon owned up and treated Russell to dinner as a peace offering. “He ordered the most expensive thing—lobster pasta!” Albon laughed. “But no dessert, so it balanced out.”
Even so, Russell wasn’t impressed. “I was tired of staring at the back of a Williams for 50 laps,” he said. “It wasn’t rebel George, just George fed up with grandma driving.”
🏁 No Regrets, Just Frustration
Russell admitted the risky move felt better than staying stuck. “We weren’t fighting for points. You get the same for P11 as you do for P20,” he explained. “At least I got to enjoy the last 25 laps.”
Albon later admitted that while the strategy worked, it didn’t feel great. “It was miserable. We had something to play for, but I can’t imagine how George felt.”
Despite the fancy meal and laughs, Russell made it clear—grandma driving might have helped Albon score points, but it also cost him some serious respect.
