CHARGES UPON AMERICAN-CHICAGO RAPPER LIL DURK
Lil Durk Faces New Federal Charges in Murder-for-Hire Case
Rapper Lil Durk (real name Durk Banks) now faces two new federal charges, which could result in a life sentence. His arrest in Florida last month on murder-for-hire accusations has led to these new charges.
Durk was arrested on October 25 near Miami International Airport. At the same time, authorities arrested five other members of his hip-hop group, Only The Family (OTF), in California. All six individuals face charges related to the 2022 murder of Quando Rondo’s cousin. Authorities claim the murder served as retaliation for the 2020 death of Durk’s artist, King Von, who was killed by Quando Rondo’s associate, Lul Timm.
The U.S. Department of Justice filed new charges against Durk, including:
- Conspiracy to commit murder,
- Using interstate facilities to carry out a murder-for-hire resulting in death,
- Using and carrying firearms, including a machine gun, during the crime.
Durk currently sits in a Miami jail without bail. Authorities will transfer him to Los Angeles for his court hearing soon. His co-defendants include:
- Kavon London Grant,
- Deandre Dontrell Wilson,
- Keith Jones,
- David Brian Lindsey,
- Asa Houston.
None of the defendants have pleaded guilty yet. Durk’s representative declined to comment.
What Led to the Charges
An unsealed federal indictment, reviewed by Variety, reveals more details. Three OTF members—Grant (also known as “Cuz” or “Vonnie”), Wilson (“DeDe”), and Houston (“Boogie”)—played direct roles in the plot. Jones (“Flacka”) and Lindsey (“Browneyez”) are linked to other Chicago street gangs.
The indictment explains that a fight took place in a nightclub in Atlanta in November 2020. During this fight, someone from T.B.’s crew pulled a gun and shot D.B., a high-ranking OTF member. The indictment suggests D.B. was King Von, based on the timeline and other details.
Authorities believe this shooting led to the retaliation in 2022, which they now link to Durk and his crew.
Durk’s Music Career
Durk, 32, has become a central figure in the Chicago drill music scene. He has helped launch the careers of stars like Chief Keef, Lil Reese, and G Herbo. Durk’s recent albums have consistently landed in the top five on the Billboard 200. His 2023 single, “All My Life” featuring J. Cole, peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
Despite his success in music, Durk now faces significant legal challenges. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
Durk and his co-defendants are scheduled for arraignment in Los Angeles soon. The FBI and Los Angeles Police Department continue their investigation.
